Our Purpose
Welcome to The Food Charity Association of Canada, also simply known as The Food Charity. We are a non-profit based in Burnaby, BC. We are excited to share the launch of our new initiative for poverty reduction and food security infrastructure; by building community greenhouses here in BC’s lower mainland. We will be providing meaningful employment to people with disabilities, and growing fresh organic food for the Food Banks.
Our Mandate and Initiatives:
- Support Local Food Assistance Groups: We work together with local food assistance groups to increase their storage requirements, and improve their capacity to serve others, helping them reach more people and meet the growing demands being placed on food assistance programs.
- Eliminate Ultra-Processed Foods: We aim to completely remove ultra-processed foods from the food donation cycle, and help build a strong, sustainable food system providing the freshest of produce to food assistance programs.
- Create Meaningful Employment: We aim to provide meaningful and rewarding jobs for people with disabilities, ensuring they work in a supported environment of dignity and respect. Thereby providing opportunities for further education, and career development in the growing agritech sector.
Our Services and Impact:
- Drive to Give: is a vital initiative by The Food Charity that provides delivery vehicles to share support to a variety of community food assistance programs. By enhancing the capacity of these programs to reach more people, we ensure that seniors and individuals unable to travel receive the meals they need. This initiative significantly impacts our community, helping to ensure no one goes hungry.
- Net-Zero Food Pantries: We are utilizing large-scale mobile refrigerated pantries, to ensure that food assistance programs can receive and properly store large donations of fresh produce, greatly reducing spoilage, while maintaining the freshest quality for community members. - Community Greenhouses: To enhance food security, sustainability, and ensure donations have the highest impact, we are building innovative, high-yield greenhouses that empower our community to grow fresh, organic food year-round. These greenhouses not only supply nutritious produce to food assistance groups to help those who are hungry, but also provide meaningful employment and careers to individuals with disabilities. By transforming underused farmland into vibrant sources of healthy food, we aim to create a model for sustainable and inclusive food production that can inspire and benefit communities across Canada. These greenhouses also serve as community hubs for education, empowerment, sustainable living, and community involvement, ensuring everyone has access to the best possible nutrition year round, improving food security at a community level.

Our mission is to ensure everyone has access to healthy, nutritious food. We build greenhouses on underused farmland to grow fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. We provide these to food banks to help those in need. We also create meaningful jobs and careers for people with disabilities. As a social-enterprise we support other food organizations. Together we work better, increasing our overall capacity to reach more people. By using smart farming methods, we aim to build a strong and sustainable food system across Canada.

We envision a world where every person has access to safe, nutritious, wholesome food and the resources they need to live a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. We believe in showing compassion for others, ensuring that even the most vulnerable members of our society receive the proper sustenance they require to end hunger. We strive to provide support to Canadian food assistance programs, and create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances.
