Also known simply as The Food Charity, we are a registered non-profit organization based in Burnaby, British Columbia.
With food insecurity at record highs and millions of pounds of fresh, edible food going to waste every year, we believe the real food security issue isn’t just a lack of food — it’s a lack of proper infrastructure. Most communities don’t have the proper infrastructure they need to store, process, and redistribute food effectively. The solution for real food security is to build local systems that reduce food waste, increase cold storage capacity, increase access, and ensure food can move reliably from where it’s grown to where it’s needed sustainably throughout the year — year after year.
We’re proud to lead with a clear, powerful, and proven model for real food security — a simple, direct, and sustainable mission rooted in poverty reduction, capacity building, education, the empowerment of youth, and employment of individuals with disabilities.
Endorsed by Food Banks BC, and other community food groups, our work focuses on creating localized food security infrastructure.
This includes:
From infrastructure to empowerment, we build real solutions for real food security.
We build innovative systems that provide help for years to come, supporting and strengthening the work of food banks and food hubs.
Whether you're here to learn, collaborate, support, or lend your expertise, we're glad you're with us.
Together, we’re building a food security system that works, redefined — and built to last.
Less waste. Stronger communities.
Real Food. Real Infrastructure. Real results. Real Impact.

Supporting Local Food Deliveries to those in need— Drive to Give is a vital initiative by The Food Charity to provide delivery vehicles for community food assistance programs. By enhancing the capacity of these programs to reach more homebound people, we ensure that seniors and individuals unable to travel receive important meals and the nutritional support that they truly require. 🌟
Solarwind Food Pantries— Longer shelf life for fresh food: 26 million pounds of food is wasted in Greater Vancouver each year - highlighting the importance to rescue surplus food while feeding the hungry. Our large-scale mobile refrigerated pantries ensure food assistance programs can receive, store, and sort large donations of fresh produce to redistribute to those in need. 😊
Growing Real Food Security & Meaningful Employment— We’re building innovative greenhouses that grow fresh, organic food year-round while creating jobs for individuals with disabilities. These greenhouses present a scalable model to transform underused farmland into community hubs for education, empowerment, and economic development, while supplying nutritious food to food banks.
Our mission is to ensure everyone has access to healthy, nutritious food. As a social-enterprise we support other food organizations. Together we work better, increasing overall capacity to reach more people. By using smart farming methods, we aim to build stronger and more sustainable food security systems across Canada.
We envision a future where nobody goes hungry— in which communities flourish through access to nutritious food, empowered by sustainable practices. We aspire for Canada to prosper through innovative partnerships and inclusive opportunities, creating a thriving food system that supports health, dignity, and resilience for all.
