Welcome to The Food Charity Association of Canada
Also known simply as The Food Charity, we are a registered non-profit organization based in Burnaby, British Columbia.
With food insecurity at record highs and millions of pounds of fresh, edible food going to waste every year, we believe the real food security issue isn’t just a lack of food — it’s a lack of proper infrastructure. Most communities don’t have the proper infrastructure they need to store, process, and redistribute food effectively. The solution for real food security is to build local systems that reduce food waste, increase cold storage capacity, increase access, and ensure food can move reliably from where it’s grown to where it’s needed sustainably throughout the year — year after year.
We’re proud to lead with a clear, powerful, and proven model for real food security — a simple, direct, and sustainable mission rooted in poverty reduction, capacity building, education, the empowerment of youth, and employment of individuals with disabilities.
Endorsed by Food Banks BC, and other community food groups, our work focuses on creating localized food security infrastructure.
This includes:
- Building Community Greenhouses, which serve both as growing spaces and educational hubs. The fresh organic food we grow is harvested, coordinated with, and distributed directly to community food banks, and food distribution groups as they need it.
- Providing Solarwind Food Pantries, which are net-zero solar- & wind-powered industrial-sized mobile refrigeration units, designed to prevent spoilage and rescue surplus food. Each of these allow up to 40,000 lbs of food a week to be received, sorted, and redistributed.
- The Food Charity Association Membership Portal is being built, and will soon be of service to food groups all across Canada.

Supporting Local Food Deliveries to those in need— Drive to Give is a vital initiative by The Food Charity to provide delivery vehicles for community food assistance programs. By enhancing the capacity of these programs to reach more homebound people, we ensure that seniors and individuals unable to travel receive important meals and the nutritional support that they truly require. 🌟

Solarwind Food Pantries— Longer shelf life for fresh food: 26 million pounds of food is wasted in Greater Vancouver each year - highlighting the importance to rescue surplus food while feeding the hungry. Our large-scale mobile refrigerated pantries ensure food assistance programs can receive, store, and sort large donations of fresh produce to redistribute to those in need. 😊
